We are in search of scientific support services for the newly established institute at the earliest convenience:
Public Relations (PR) Specialist (f/m/div)
Responsibilities:
As our PR Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our institute´s visibility and reputation. Your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Employer branding: develop and implement strategies to showcase MPI-SP as an attractive employer for international students, postdocs, PIs, and non-scientific personnel
- Location marketing: highlight our ideal location for research, emphasizing its unique advantages and opportunities for collaboration in Bochum’s cybersecurity ecosystem and beyond
- Networking: build and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders, including other Max Planck Institutes and MPG headquarters, universities, political decision makers / amplifiers, third party funding entities, industry partners, and media outlets
- Science communication / marketing: craft compelling narratives around our research projects and accomplishments to engage diverse audiences and promote public understanding of our work
- Identifying target groups and tailored communication: analyze and pinpoint relevant target groups, customizing communication strategies to address their specific interests and needs, create and execute targeted communication plans for diverse audiences, maximizing impact and resonance
- Crisis communication: prepare and implement crisis communication strategies, responding swiftly and effectively to potential challenges or issues (in coordination with the central administration of MPG)
- Coordination within MPG of all matters related to PR
- External representation: content design for websites, posters, flyers, strategic event management
Strengthen (internal) communication: foster internal communication, act as PR advisor for researchers
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor´s or master´s degree in communication, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field
- Proven experience in PR and communication, preferably in a research or academic environment, ideally in a security and privacy context
- Exceptional storytelling skills and the ability to convey complex scientific concepts in an engaging manner
- Act like a digital native and have a deep understanding of social and professional online networks
- Full professional proficiency in English and German, both written and spoken
- A proactive, creative, and solution-oriented mindset with excellent organizational and time management skills
- A strong network of contacts within academia, industry, media, and political spheres is a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of the international and German research landscape and current societal and scientific (political) discourses are advantageous
